The Water Bar

For Selfridges

At The Water Bar designed by Arabeschi di Latte in collaboration with Jane Withers Studio, visitors were invited to imagine life without the plastic water bottle and sample alternative water drinking experiences. The protagonist of the space was a long counter made in recycled terrazzo with specially designed pink double taps recalling the original one from Italian thermal complex. On the walls on display were an extraordinary range of vessels that suggest how rich the possibilities of containing water are, once we move beyond plastic. In Selfridges Food Hall, visitors could also refill their own vessels at the Sea Change fountain

The Water Bar was part of Selfridges’ Project Ocean campaign – a retail activism campaign committed to raising awareness of the danger plastic poses to the world’s oceans. Between 5 and 14 million tonnes of plastic are estimated to enter our oceans every year, contributing to the existence of a floating plastic ‘soup’ now estimated altogether to be twice the size of the United States and amounting to 5 trillion plastic pieces.
